The Indian Community
in Geneva

The principal aim of our Indian Community is to promote Indian classical fine arts, mainly for the expatriate Indians in Geneva and neighbouring France, in order to retain our link and kindle an awareness of our rich tradition especially among the growing youth. However, due to its popularity all over the world, Indian classical art has slowly attracted the attention of all art lovers in Switzerland and neighbouring France. It started organising its programs using local talents in 1987, and since 1999, it has been hosting programs of versatile professional artists on a regular basis.

Though Indian fine arts have various components, Indian Community specializes in the exposure of the rich classical dances from various states of India, melodious enchanting music styles of Carnatic and Hindustani, both vocal and instrumental, devotional music which elevates the spirituality of individuals and soothes the soul. Though the Indian Community gives importance to single style of dance like Bharatha Natyam, Kathak, Mohini Attam, Kuchpudi, Odissi etc, it has started promoting fusion of two or more styles of these dance forms. The classical dances, with the melodious sweet music rendering accompanied by various instruments, with various gorgeous colourful dresses of the dancers, which included both experts and growing artists, have thrilled the audience and these performances are becoming popular with more art lovers.

Our past activities include famous and renowned artistes including dancers like Mala Pasupathi, Meenakshi Chitharanjan, Anuradha and Sridhar, Brigitte and Michel, Abinava Arts Group, Priyadarshini Govind, Vyjayanthi Kashi, Sathyanarayana Raju, Sharmila Sharma, Sushmita Ghosh, Parvathi Nair, Shanny Mathew, Balatriputasundari (Kuchipudi), Sudharsan Kumar, Professor P.T.Narendran etc., singers like Nityasree Mahadevan, Sudha Raghunathan, Malini Hariharan etc., and instrumentistes like Kalpana Venkat, Krishna Rao, Srinivasan, Ganesh Rao, Hariprasad, Vishwanathan, Lakshman Swamy, Sigamani etc.
